STR International ( Japan ) Co., Ltd. was established in December 1994 with an original name called Guang Hai Co., Ltd. (a joint venture by Shanghai Radio and TV Bureau and Japan Seagull Co., Ltd.). In April 1998, STR International Group acquired all the shares from its foreign counterpart and changed the name of this company into STR International ( Japan ) Co., Ltd.

At the beginning after its establishment, STR International ( Japan ) Co., Ltd was mainly engaged into cultural exchange and also did business like translation service, selling of movie and TV works, assisting Japanese movie companies to shoot overseas, and arrangement of visiting teams from China. From May 1999, it began to do restaurant business under the name of Shanghai Food Pavilion, selling all kinds of desserts including small steamer bun, dishes and drinks. In February 2000, the name was changed into Shanghai Food Garden and in May 2001, it had got its first chain store called —— Xi Yang Yang, Shanghai Food Garden. In 2002, Mandarin Duck Chaffy Dish Restaurant was established to sell mandarin duck chaffy dishes. Till July 2004, Shanghai Food Garden has owned three chain stores and been selling small steamer buns to three Chinese restaurants. In June 2003, addition to the original restaurant business, it began E-business, selling desserts through Internet. The small steamer buns of Shanghai Food Garden have been reported by Japanese media including TV stations, newspapers, magazines. It was entitled to be the No. 1 of its kind in Osaka , Japan .

STR International ( Japan ) Co., Ltd. is expanding its international treading business, among which cultural exchange, restaurant management and international trading are still its main business.
